Darley’s newest recruit snagged nine of the team’s 33 goals in their win against Lake Wendouree over the weekend.
Lachie George not only kicked the most goals of the game, but was named one of the best in the Seniors 165-point victory on home soil.
The reserves game finished much the same with a 119-point win, Jakob Bankowski and Jackson Lesko kicking five each.
And a win in our U18.5s; Darley 8.9.57 to Lake Wendouree’s 6.9.45.
Optimism in netball department as season continues
Four of six netball teams took home the win, with one Captain describing theirs as an “incredible game to be part of”.
“Our intensity and skill level was maintained for the whole four quarters,” B Grade Captain Kaylee Smith said.
“We were able to wear down a competitive lakers side and lift when we needed to.”
“As a team we played an incredible defensive game across the whole court and I couldn’t be prouder of the team’s efforts,” Smith said.
The Under 19s were among the two teams unable to get the win over Lake Wendouree, and Captain Alyssa Normington said despite the loss, they came away from the game with smiles on their faces.
“We all learned plenty during this game, and are reflecting on our disappointing first couple of weeks.”
“With nothing to lose and heaps to gain, we will continue to grind out the next game, hoping for our second win of the season!”
Record breaking scores in women’s football
A 243-point win over Lake Wendouree on Saturday night sees the Senior Women’s football team breaking BFLW marginal history.
Kim Bessell snagged seven of the 37 goals scored in the game, closely followed by Sharni Battye (5) and Ruby Thomas (5).
Head Coach Danyel Waters said the game provided opportunities for players to play in positions they wouldn’t usually.
“There’s always room for growth, and this week’s training focus is goal kicking accuracy as we look to travel out to Carisbrook for Round 7.”
And a 92-point loss in the under 19 women’s game against Ballarat on Sunday.
Coach Brett Faulkhead highlighted the four debutants that played their first game, and said the team is gaining more confidence as the season progresses.
“At the end of the game the girls were again flat wondering what more they need to do to try and get a victory, but they also understand that what we are building will create success.”
“The girls understand that the previous games are lessons, not our identity,” Faulkhead said.
