Three things were true over the weekend; the sun was shining, our under 19 women’s footy won their first ever game and our Seniors beat East by 28 points.
Senior Coach Dan Jordan said his team were pushed the whole way through the game and were not helped by poor conversion in front of goal, but managed to steady late in the final term and secure the win.
Joel Cadman, Nick Hind and Rhys Younger all snagged three goals each, with young Grant Hatcher kicking two.
The reserves were led by leading goal kicker Jake Ancrum (2) but unfortunately couldn’t come out with the win. Our Under 18.5s were much the same, losing to East Point by 82 points.
We saw tough fought wins in our A and C Grade netball games, with captains of each ecstatic with the work ethic and determination of all girls on the court.
“It was competitive throughout, but we didn’t drop our heads,” C Grade captain Maegan Taylor said. “Everyone contributed across the court and showed great determination.”
“It was a confident effort that highlighted the depth and resilience across the club,” was the sentiment from A Grade captain Matilda Elliot.
Elliot also gave a shoutout to Ava Densley and Ellie Martin stepping up on their A Grade debut, saying they showed “real poise and composure through the mid court”.
D Grade Captain Lisa Kight said it was a strong start from the team in the first half which saw the scores level at half time, but unfortunately, East were able to pull away at the end and secure the win.
Our E Grade side showed strong defence across the court with great passages of play, and D Grade captain Abbey Solomon described the teams’ desire to continue to progress as the season continues.
“The excitement on their faces was very rewarding”
Sunday saw our Under 19 and Senior women’s footy sides travel to Ballarat to play in weather one coach described as ‘perfect’.
Under 19 women’s coach Brett Faulkhead said there was a good crowd in attendance as both teams entered the field for a battle which did not let the supporters down.
“We found ourselves behind at three quarter time by two points, but it was the effort and level that the girls rose to in the last quarter that ensured the victory.”
“Their attack at each contest and then later the maturity of slowing the game down and keeping possession was the cherry on top at the finish,” Faulkhead said.
“When the final siren sounded, the excitement on their faces to have their first win as an U19’s team was very rewarding.”
Our Senior women continued their winning streak with a 95-point win over East Point.
