Bow and arrow wielding Billy Myers played out of his skin on Anzac Day weekend against Bacchus Marsh, snagging eight goals in a 102-point win.

Of the 25 goals scored in the teams’ first twilight match of the season, five players scored two or more goals, and five others kicking one goal a piece.

The lead was set from the first bounce, but a hard fought Bacchus Marsh squad kept the game within 20 points for the majority of the first half.

Earlier in the day our reserves suffered a loss, but Coach Josh Williams said despite this it will be exciting to see what they can do at full strength.

“We review as a group and work through what our best team structure looks like,” he said.

“With some players returning over the coming weeks, we still have time to work through what our best will look like.”

The U18.5’s played an incredible game, stealing the win from the Marsh by only four points. Young Liam Steegstra kicked three of the eight goals scored for the term.

Four out of six wins in netball department

Over in the netball – four of our six sides walked away with the win, A Grade defeating Bacchus Marsh by 37 goals.

“We welcomed back Olivia Cawthray for her first home game of the season, and having a full side on court from the start gave us a big lead early,” Captain Matilda Elliot said. “This allowed us to really focus on executing what we’ve been refining at training,”

“Anna Lawley was a stand out in defence taking out the best on medal, causing plenty of turn overs and seamlessly transitioning the ball out of defence.”

Our Under 19s and E Grade sides missed out on wins this week, with our Unders only missing the win by one goal.

Captain Alyssa Normington said despite her teammates putting up a great fight, they just fell short  in some areas on the court.

“We unfortunately didn’t capitalise off [Bacchus Marsh’s] errors and our defensive gains. We know that was our game to win and are confident we will get over the line in the next clash.”

“Best game of football they’ve ever seen the Darley women’s play”

Our Senior women defeated Redan by 22 points on Friday night in the Grand Final rematch.

Spectators described it as ‘the best game of football they’ve ever seen the Darley women’s play’.

Head Coach Danyel Waters said the speed of play out the middle was exceptional caused by their strong midfield line up.

Redan hit the scoreboard first but Darley soon retaliated with two goals of their own, leading from the front for the remainder of the game.

The Under 19 women’s game ended early in the third quarter, leaving the final score Darley 1.3.9 to East Point 4.4.28.

Coach Brett Faulkhead said despite the early finish, the girls are continually learning as each week goes by.

“I am seeing improvement in many players and the good thing is it is different players stepping up each week.”
