If you were told you could save someone’s life after you die, would you?

Today’s game will be played in recognition of DonateLife, the national program in Australia dedicated to increasing organ and tissue donation to improve transplant opportunities.

This cause is incredibly important, and one that holds a special place in the hearts of Darley Football Netball Club.

Cristy McConnell and her family lost their beloved mother and grandmother, Pauline, late last year due to a catastrophic brain bleed.

Pure devastation was quickly turned into life changing decisions as the family were told their mother was a registered organ donor.

“During the hardest time of our lives [the doctors] spoke to us with respect, dignity and compassion.

“As a family we took great comfort knowing that Mum was able to give life and change the lives of those that so desperately needed it,” Cristy said.

Pauline went on to save many lives including a 16-year old that desperately needed her kidney to survive.

Since then, Cristy and her sister have gone on to become volunteers at DonateLife and continue to help raise awareness of the importance of organ and tissue donations.

It takes less than two minutes to become an organ donor, and you could save multiple lives just like Pauline did.
