Sunday May 18 was like any other day for most, but not for Madalyn Clarke.
In a 130 point win against Carisbrook, Clarke booted her 300th goal, an achievement she was oblivious to early in the season.
“I had no idea I was so close until Brett (coach) mentioned it,” she said. “That gave me a bit more motivation going into the season.”
“I’ve been playing for 13 years now so it has taken a while,” Clarke said.
Upon reflection, she said kicking that goal was a great feeling and a real representation of the hard work and dedication she’s put into her craft over the years.
“You don’t hear of many women kicking 300 goals in their career, especially at local level, so to have two Darley women do it in the same season is pretty special.”
Back in Round 3, four time leading goal kicker Kim Bessell kicked her 300th career goal in a win against East Point.
She described the milestone as ‘a pretty good feeling’, one she was especially proud of.
“I honestly never even thought about [kicking 300 goals] until the end of last year when I noticed I was only 14 or so goals away,” Bessell said.
“I thought it’d be pretty cool to get the 300.”
Bessell managed to achieve the milestone despite her career being interrupted by COVID and a stint in the backline.
She hit her 300th goal in her 89th game.
Both Clarke and Bessell say they now look ahead to winning their third consecutive premiership with the Devils.
