PHEW! That was close.

Seniors – Holding off a late Sunbury comeback in the last few minutes of the game was not good for the nerves of the Devils supporters at Clarke Oval but we will gladly take the win.  This was a scrappy game in windy, showery conditions where Darley’s inaccuracy gave the Lions the early lead, kept them in front for most of the game and almost allowed them to steal it nearing the final siren after we had taken the lead early in the last quarter

In some respects the thrills of high marks and sharp passes were not evident but we were treated to a fantastic display of good hard “in and under” footy.  Our strength around the packs was great to watch with Dan Roy dominating clearances.  He was ably supported by Brian Graham, Spiteri, Carrick and Herring.  Harley Inglis once again proved his worth as a running forward with 2 goals and Kyle Docherty starred with 3.   Whilst it was a good team effort from all the boys playing hard footy, playing coach Scotland led by example with a puristic display of kicking and passing.

Darley                  1.3, 5.7, 7.10, 10.13 (73)

Sunbury               4.1, 6.2, 9.4, 11.6 (72)

Reserves – In even more blustery conditions earlier in the afternoon, our Ressies dominated Sunbury after a goalless 1st quarter.   This was a great game for the 2’s giving them 3 in a row to start off their season.

Darley                 0.1, 3.5, 5.7, 6.8 (44)

Sunbury              0.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5 (17)

Under 18’s-  Good you on you boys – well done.  After a slow start to the season, the U18.5s dominated their opponents for the entire match.  Good perseverance saw the players make a comeback from the first two rounds to record their first win and make their season seem a lot brighter.

Darley                 5.5, 5.7, 10.8, 10.8 (68)

Sunbury              1.1, 3.3, 3.6, 6.9 (45)

The netballers struggled against their opponents for most of the day with our 19 & Unders recording our only win for the day.  The courts were well exposed to rain and wind and it wasn’t very conducive to enjoyable netball but nothing should be taken away form Sunbury who were better on the day.
