Round 14 – Darley vs Redan

Saturday saw our Men’s football and Women’s netball sides take on the Redan Lions in at Darley Park and Melton South and on Sunday our Women’s football team play the Melton Bloods at Darley Park.

Netball

A Grade went into the game with 5 players down but showed that they are extremely resilient. Missing our defenders and goalers, the rest of the team stepped up and gave it their all.
Tarni Lopes and Shannon Blackman both played an amazing game in defence. Keely Bourdie had a strong day at the post and our midcourt worked hard to link and create defensive turnovers.

The final score did not reflect the quality of the game.

BEST   Shannon Blackman, Tarni Lopes

B Grade had a tough match losing by 2 goals. The young Devils team showed that come finals, they will be able to step up to the pressure of finals. Playing the much older and experienced Redan team and improving their final score margin, will only increase their confidence.

GOAL SCORERS   Sarah Mason, Victoria Abdulnour
BEST    Sophia Andreula, Holly Barrett

C Grade has set up the game of the round for next week. Currently sitting equal second on the ladder with Lakers, the Darley girls have a first versus second battle on their hands and a must-win game to seal second place on the ladder. If they play like they did on the weekend, Lakers will have to step up if they want to take the win from a fired-up Darley.

GOAL SCORERS Renee Hulls, Lauren Martin
BEST Addison Wright, Renee Hulls

The 19’s had a great day on the court.

With the huge loss of Ella Closter in goals following foot surgery, youngster Greta Jacobs-Gorman showed that she can take the pressure of stepping into the role of goal shooter late into the season and she and Sarah Mason worked beautifully together.

Our defence end combination of Chelsea Mason and Holly Barrett gave the Redan A grade goaler a tough time, shutting her down at every opportunity and contributing to the strong win.

Darley 48 d Redan 31
GOAL SCORERS Ava Hellyer, Greta Gorman-Jacobs, Sarah Mason
BEST  Chelsea Mason, Holly Barrett
