The season kicked off to a spectacular start with wins across the board during Round 1 on the weekend.
This season will see us playing away games every weekend until Round 8 while our new clubrooms continue to be constructed.
We are excited for what is sure to be a busy and successful year for the Darley Devils
The much anticipated season began at Ballarat on Saturday with all 3 football teams winning their matches.
In windy conditions, the 19s got off to a slow start trailing by 2 goals at quarter time. However, a strong 6 goal second quarter saw the boys set up the win and go in at halftime 26 points in front. The end result was a 23 point win – a great result for first-year coach Dale Peacock and the team. Big thanks to Under 17s boys Chase Sanders, James Hardinge, Tane Mason and Fynn Ramsay for helping us out!
The reserves under new mentor Travis Edwards had a great start to the season with a solid 32 point win.
In ordinary conditions, the boys fought the game out well, never really looking in danger of losing. In wet and windy conditions, the seniors had to battle hard to get the win over a very young Ballarat side. Going in at halftime leading by 12 points, the team kicked 6 goals to 1 in the second half to run out 40 point winners. Local icon Matt Denham and brothers from Kyneton; Darcy Matricardi & Riley Matricardi also made their debut in Black and White.
A very successful day for everyone!

The Ballarat weather was not kind to us for our first round of netball; but it did not deter our netball sides from playing their best!
The 19’s kicked off the day with a very confident win against the Swans in extreme winds and rain. The girls first half kept the Swans to only 7 goals and the second quarter was the best for the Swans seeing them score 5 goals. Darley pushed back and kept the Swans to only a single goal in the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the girls push the score out to a 20-goal win.
E Grade captain Lisa led the team from the first quarter right until the end, giving 100% effort and encouraging her teammates. It was windy, with lots of turnovers throughout the game, which resulted in a very low scoring game. A big congratulations to E Grade team on their win! What a great way to start the season.
D grade dominated the first half with a 5-1 score at half time. However, they let their guard down and allowed Ballarat to come back in the third quarter with only 1 goal to their 5. We had moments of good play, but crowding and easy mistakes cost us our win this week.
Congrats to Ruby and Ava who have both moved up to C grade. The team had a great win considering they were missing a number of players and working with new combinations. Renee showed her dominance in the circle again shooting 26 of the team’s 30 goals. Renee was well supported by Lauren Martin and young Ava Densley. Ella Harris had a solid game showing her skill in WD. The girls took a solid win by 17 goals.
The B’s had the worst of the weather for the day, but still showed that they are a tough unit to beat in any conditions. The first quarter saw the girls dominate all over the court and push out the score to 14-3 leading into the second quarter. The Swans fought back in the second giving the Darley girls and supporters a fright with a very good 11 – 3 goal quarter and drawing the scores to only a 5 goal difference. A 23-10 goal second half saw Darley gain control and finish off how they started! Chelsea and Holly dominated in the defensive circle. Greta and Sarah showed their connection in goals. None of this happens without the engine room mid-court players.
The A’s opened up their season with a very strong win against the Swans. It was an exciting day for the girls having young guns Ella Closter and Greta Gorman-Jacobs play their first A grade game for Darley, alongside Jaimee Smith who was elevated to a permanent member of the side. Both Ella, Greta and Jaimee played outstanding games, along with Matilda Elliot who had the ball on a string in the defence end.

The girls were excited for the Round 1 match against Lake Wendouree and it showed with their enthusiasm on the field.
Lilli Condon, in centre, got the ball out with ease to start the momentum of the match. Summer-Lee contributed from the wing and got the ball down to the forward line. Maddy Clarke played a superb game and all girls played with absolute passion.
Well done on your first win of the season!
